World Scouting commit for the MDGs

France

Pont-de-Barret, France, 28 August 2004. During one week, about 40 scout leaders of 25 African, Arab, European and Latin American countries met in France, Pont-de-Barret, to look at Scouting response to the challenges of sustainable development and Peace.

The participants were invited to contribute to the launch of the future educational programme entitled « Scouts of the World » which will bring adolescent age members and young adults into service oriented activities aimed at developping their communities.

« Scouts of the World » will also be opened to non-scouts young people through the launch of the world-wide campaign « Youth of the World ».

As a world youth movement in a globalised world, Scouting has a global responsibility to help respond to the challenges of development. For Scouting, humanising the effects of globalisation requires an educational and social commitment at both local and international levels.

Through an active process of self-education, Scouting invites young people to be agents of change and development, and help to “leave the world a better place”.

The Scout Movement works in close cooperation with many international partners, including the United Nations family.
